Do We Know What is Real?
Reality is an inside job
“I went to the woods because I desired to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it means to live simply in the presence of the real world.”
Henry David Thoreau
We live with physical reality all of the time. We sit in chairs and never think of them being non-existent air. We can’t walk through walls or closed doors without opening them. In fact, it would be hard to function in our world if we could not trust our senses to guide us through each day.
We invest time in building and repairing things that we find useful or fun. Most of us have never questioned what we see, feel, touch, hear or taste and if we did, others might think we had some mental misfunction.
But consider the quote below and see if it makes life seem firmer or a little more like the object in the picture above.
“We seldom realize, for example that our most private thoughts and emotions are not actually our own. For we think in terms of languages and images which we did not invent, but which were given to us by our society.” - Alan Watts
You may have heard stories about natives looking out on the ocean and not seeing the wooden ships that were approaching their shores. There was nothing in their language or experience that explained what was on the horizon, so they saw nothing.
William James, in his book, “The Will to Believe” said “Our notions of reality are the sum of our habits of thought; reality is what our mind constructs as useful.”
This is why people can believe and act on ideas that to you might think are just plain crazy. Why do people believe the “experts” in every domain and thoughtlessly follow people and ideas that lead to very poor outcomes.
Some recent examples of these mass hysteria events include;
The 9/11 Attack - 2001
H1N1 (Swine Flu) Panic - 2010-2012
Sandy Hook Conspiracy Theories - 2012-2014
Ebola Outbreak Fear‑mongering - 2013-2016
QAnon” / “The Great Awakening - 2014-2020
Climate‑Change Denial / “Global Cooling - 2015-2022
#MeToo Backlash / Victim‑Blaming Waves - 2017-2021
COVID‑19 Pandemic (2020‑2022) – Vaccine Hesitancy & Anti‑Mask Movements - 2018-2023
AI‑Generated Deepfake Scare - 2022-2024
In a great sense we are all living in a made up world and those of us with open eyes can see that much of our lives have been pre-programed to fit someone else’s agenda.
I know my generation’s education was better and closer to a classic education, but much of that has been lost over the last 50 years. Students today are fed useless facts and many reach college with 4th grade math and reading skills and without the ability to grasp concepts in the “real” educational materials that still exist, and human attention span has been greatly effected by the technology we carry in our pockets.
Much of what we find in academia today is either a distortion of history or downright false. If you are looking for real history you will need to find books that were in print before the 1920s. There is a resource for many of these books at a website called Heritage History where the curator has spend over 30 years obtaining, preserving and digitizing hundreds of books that can be downloaded and read. This is a great resource for home schoolers and anyone interested in history that has been hidden or distorted by those in control.
We are by far not the first generation who have destroyed history in order to control humanity. The Catholic Church confiscated or destroyed much of the historical writings that existed from the time of the Sumerians to the 5th century AD.
There are people in every generation who desire control and who have their hands on the levers of that control; education, politics, media and commerce. This is why we must stay ever vigilant to the messages in the marketplace.
The way out of this matrix is to realize that reality is not something that others create for us, but rather, what we create for our selves.
Jonathan Harnisch in his memoir “Sex, Drugs & Schizophrenia” summarizes this for us.
“It can be quite challenging to constantly remind ourselves that the reality we experience is merely a construct of our own minds. Material possessions, societal norms, and societal expectations that we often place great value on are merely man‑made constructs.”
I have spoken of this before, but it is vital that we grasp the power that lies within our own consciousness, the power to create outcomes we direct to achieve our own desires.
The following is attributed to Plato and his idealism about how minds shape our sense of reality.
“Reality is created by the mind. We can change our reality by changing our mind.”
I recommend you check out a great article published by the Cosmic Onion on Substack: NAME THAT NIGHTMARE: How the Mind Parasites Get Us to Manifest the Nightmare Matrix for Them.
In the post he looks at how the forces in control use names (like the list above) to cast spells on humanity and shape the outcomes they desire. It is up to us break that spell and he has some tips to help us take back control and overthrow these demons.
Breaking the spell isn’t mystical.
It’s mechanical.
Stop letting outer reality tell you what is real.
The outside is the diagnostic printout of last week’s inner condition.Protect your attention like it’s sacred fuel (because it is).
Quit donating emotional voltage to fear stories.
That’s their power supply.Pull imagination back inside your own skull.
Feel deliberately instead of reactively.
Become the solitary one
Jesus keeps praising in Thomas — the one who steps outside the herd mind.Inhabit the Eternal Now.
That’s where the event-stream is pliable.
We are wonderful and powerful beings who have been given dominion in this realm and that power is available to anyone who wants to access it for their good and the good of humanity.
We live in interesting times, maybe the most interesting times, and we should wake up each day grateful for just being alive.
“The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves.” — Alan Watts
